I am so excited that there are so many out there willing to serve! The increase in missionary work is INCREDIBLE!!!
This is something I have wanted my entire life. All of my uncles have served (and my dad, too) and many of my aunts were missionaries as well! They have all been great examples to me and they are all people I look up to. My cousin Alana reminded me recently about our "twelve-year-old trip" we took to Temple Square. We met some of the sister missionaries there and the one I talked to was from Argentina. I told her I wanted to serve a mission when I turned 21 and she was so excited for me! She gave me a handout that had some of the things we need to memorize as missionaries so that I could get a head start :)
A mission has always been in my plans since day one (okay, a little exaggeration.... maybe since day 2871 or so....) Many people view their twenty-first birthday as being the day they can legally drink, but to me it was the day I could finally serve a mission (a more pleasant outtake on the number, if you ask me.)
You can imagine my excitement the day President Monson announced the age change. I was sitting in my apartment by myself since all of my roommates were watching it with friends somewhere else, and I was already super excited about the temple announcement in Tucson (my missionary is serving there) So when the time came that the Prophet said that I could serve at age 19, i was LITERALLY jumping around my living room for joy. I can honestly say that was one of the happiest days of my life :)
I am so so so blessed to be able to serve right now. I feel like the age change was made just for me! (...I know that's not the case, but whatever haha)
Until next time! xoxo --Sister Peters
